There’s no better way to educate than through music and movement.
Nickelodeon is doing it right with a short-form, animated musical series to help kids get their groove on while they learn about real historical periods.
Rhymes Through Times features original music and lyrics written and performed by award-winning Moana composer Christopher Jackson, alongside fan-favorite preschool characters, like Peppa Pig. The series debuted on Noggin, Nickelodeon’s interactive learning service for preschoolers, and the Nick Jr. YouTube channel.
Rhymes Through Times is a perfect educational medium to celebrate Black History Month with. All three episodes focus on prominent Black figures and their civil rights, leadership, science, and performing arts contributions to American culture. The first episode, “Hero,” follows the story of Ruby Bridges and Thurgood Marshall (portrayed by Bubble Guppies’ Zooli and Goby) as they take a stand against school segregation and fight for fairness. Watch it below!
The subsequent episodes, “My Best” and “Why We Dance,” will celebrate historical heroes, such as Katherine Johnson and Alvin Ailey, with an adorable crew of Bubble Guppies, Nella the Princess Knight, and Blaze and the Monster Machines characters. Kids can catch their favorites in a historical musical number every week on Noggin and the Nick Jr. YouTube channel.
Each of the songs from Rhymes Through Times will be available on more than 200 digital streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Pandora.
