Elmo loves his goldfish … and his puppy, too!
Our favorite red muppet is introducing a new paw-fect pal to Sesame Street in the 30-minute animated special Furry Friends Forever: Elmo Gets a Puppy, debuting on HBO Max on Aug. 5. Kids can meet music-loving Tango and embark on fun adventures with her through new books, stories, and plush toys coming soon.
In the special, Elmo and Grover discover a stray puppy on Sesame Street. They then bring the puppy to an adoption fair to help her find a new home. Along the way, they name her Tango, learn how to take care of her, and by the end of their journey, realize that Tango’s forever home is with Elmo on 123 Sesame Street. Watch the trailer below!
To celebrate Elmo’s new furry friend, an array of new licensed products are in the works, including the books Furry Friends Forever: Elmo Gets a Puppy from Studio Fun and First Look and Find: Furry Friends Forever from PI Kids. The former has touchable textures throughout, while the latter features a search-and-find game based on the special, as well as learning concepts including counting, rhyming, and shapes.
This summer, General Mills will debut storybooks based on the Sesame Street cereals: Elmo and Tango Go for a Walk, Elmo Teaches Tango a New Trick, Elmo and Tango Play Fetch, Elmo and Tango Do a Happy Dance, How to Meet a Puppy, and Hide and Seek. A dual-language storybook featuring Elmo and Tango will come with each box of 123 Berry and C is for Cinnamon cereals.
GUND will release the Dance and Play Elmo and Tango, plush characters that play music and dance along. ASO bandages will feature the dynamic duo on a new bandage box.
Families can also expect to see more Tango goodies, including organic toddler snacks from Earth’s Best, apparel from Children’s Apparel Network, toddler footwear from SG Companies, and more. Furry Friends Forever: Elmo Gets a Puppy will launch on PBS Kids next year following its HBO Max debut.
