Sesame Workshop and HiHo Kids, the YouTube channel that features the series Kids Meet, have come together for two special episodes of Kids Meet. The collaboration works to continue Sesame Workshop’s “Coming Together” initiative that aims to help kids cultivate a healthy and positive identity for themselves, and a sense of belonging in their communities.
In the 5-minute long episodes, Elmo; Abby Cadabby; and Ji-Young, a new Korean-American Muppet; join kids to meet people who have proven to be trailblazers in their lives by overcoming challenges to follow their dreams. Through one-on-one interviews, kids can ask questions to learn more about individual differences and gain an appreciation for the aspects of diversity.
In the first episode, released on June 13, the kids and Sesame Street characters met Samantha Lopez, a dancer in a wheelchair, and learned how she was able to incorporate her wheelchair into her dance moves. The next episode will launch on July 17, featuring Ryneldi Becenti, the first Indigenous-American to play in the Women’s National Basketball Association. The kids will learn what it means to be an upstander and the importance and value of fairness.
