The traditional fabric-weaving loom just had an extreme makeover.

It’s now instant, part digital, and extremely customizable. Introducing the Digiloom, by WowWee, an app-controlled weaving machine.

While weaving typically requires patience and precision, the Digiloom simplifies this process for kids, making it beginner level and safe. Custom-made bracelets, anklets, headbands, bookmarks, and maybe even a collar for a special furry friend have never been so much fun to make. The kids will love coming up with new ideas and designs to create..

The Digiloom works like this: First, kids design their creation on the Digiloom app. Maybe they want a Digiband that is decorated solely with dogs or unicorn emojis (not even Grandma can’t stitch that!). Maybe they want to make “Best Friend” Digibands or a Digiband with their name on it. Or maybe kids want some cool zig-zags or shapes on their Digiband. The possibilities are endless as kids can choose from different texts, colors, shapes, symbols, and shapes. While the options are limited when kids first get started, kids can unlock more options. Make sure they check the Quick Start Guide for a code to unlock more patterns.

Second, kids can connect their Digiloom app to their Digiloom weaving machine. This is probably the hardest part of the process, as sometimes it glitches. Make sure kids have their device Bluetooth enabled and that the ‘Forward” button is pushed down when trying to connect. The app has a red heart at the top. When the heart turns green, it means that the device is connected.

Next, it’s time to set up. Kids should slide the Digiband clip into the machine and thread each piece to the appropriate arm of the weaving machine. That sets the band up. Now, kids need to weave their pattern. They do this by wrapping their thread around a shuttle, tying a knot at the base of the Digiband, and then proceeding to weave by wrapping the thread between arms and under the Digiband. This video tutorial lays it all out for kids.

Finally, 1…2…Digi…LOOM. Hit “Make Digiband” in the app and watch the on-screen creation come to life off-screen. Now that’s #instantfashion.

While this product is suggested for kids ages 8 and up, it’s perfect for anyone who wants a very basic and easy-to-use weaving machine. Or for anyone who may have trouble picturing how a design would look, as one can revise their design as many times as desired before actually weaving it. BRB, designing all my friends “BFF” Digibands!

The Digiloom will be available at Michael’s starting August 4. The app is available for free download in the App Store and on Google Play. The Digiloom weaving machine requires 4 AA batteries (not included).
