Put the red-and-green garland up early this year — Dolly Parton is releasing a new picture book about the holiday season full of animals, music, and Christmas joy, and you can preorder it now.

Dolly Parton’s Billy the Kid Comes Home for Christmas is a standalone sequel to the picture book Dolly Parton’s Billy the Kid Makes It Big. The new story follows an illustrated version of the country singer’s god-dog Billy the Kid, a French bulldog that has a knack for music. In the book, Billy the Kid enjoys his home in Nashville, his band, and a cross-country tour. But, when the band is scheduled to perform at Barkafeller Center on Christmas Day, the main pup needs to figure out if he should invest in his fame or his family.

The story is inspired by the superstar’s song “Comin Home for Christmas” and discusses the importance of friends, family, and your home during the holiday season. Parents and young readers might recognize Billy the Kid Comes Home for Christmas illustrator MacKenzie Haley’s work in Snitchy Witch, The Ninja Club Sleepover, and more.

The book will be available for all animal lovers, aspiring musicians, and Dolly Parton fans on Oct. 1. Until then, you can add other Dolly Parton books, like Coat of Many Colors and I Am A Rainbow to your reading list.
