Pirates, beware! There’s a new matey setting sail on the high seas, and he’s not your average buccaneer.

8-year-old Santiago “Santi” Montes is the brave and kind-hearted pirate starring in a new Nickelodeon series: Santiago of the Seas. The animated preschool series will follow Santiago (Kevin Chacon) as he hunts for treasure, embarks on daring rescues, and patrols the seas in a Caribbean-inspired fantasy world.

In the action-adventure series, Santiago is joined by Tomás (Justice Quiroz), his clumsy and energetic cousin whose magical guitar can harness the wind, and Lorelai (Alyssa Cheatham), a mermaid who can speak to sea creatures and morph into a human girl. Santi and his crew sail the seas using their smarts, pirate prowess, and moral compasses to guard their home of Isla Encanto from villains like the evil pirate Bonnie Bones (Kyndra Sanchez) and her Palm Crow sidekick Sir Butterscotch (John Leguizamo).

The first season is 20 episodes long and is infused with a Spanish language and Latino-Caribbean culture curriculum. The series premieres on Friday, Oct. 9, at 12:30 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon. Following the premiere, nickjr.com and the Nick Jr. app will feature original short-form content and full-length episodes. Episodes will also be available on Nick Jr. On Demand and Download-to-Own services.
