WHAT IT IS
Asmodee‘s Catan — On the Road turns the classic tabletop game into a portable card game. The basics of Catan remain the same, but the board and hexagon tiles are swapped with cards. Players use cards in horizontal and vertical orientations to build their communities on the island by using roads and collecting resources such as wood, wheat, and bricks. Kids ages 10 and up can dip into the card stack, trade with other players, or deal with the bank.
The goal is to gain seven victory points before others. To do so, players can draw and trade cards to expand settlements, develop a legion of knights, and build out a region.

WHY WE LOVE IT
Catan can be a little intimidating to begin with, but this 15-minute edition offers a similar experience in less time and takes up less surface area. Families can play the game that older siblings or parents know and love without investing in a full-fledged game night. This version of the game, designed for 3-4 players, can also introduce younger Settlers to more focused strategy skills while still keeping the competition lighthearted and brief. Additionally, it encourages socialization — if a player trades cards with others when it’s not their turn, they receive an additional resource card.
