March is Women’s History Month and Barbie is ready to celebrate girl power with four special virtual events, new dolls for the Inspiring Women collection, and more!
The You Can Be Anything virtual series will feature female trailblazers, such as activist Adwoa Aboah and actress Yara Shahidi, as well as fun-filled activities and performances. The series will present four educational and interactive live streams based on the following thematic concepts: “Your Name,” “Music & Dance,” “STEAM,” and “Sports & Wellness.” Barbie’s You Can Be Anything series promotes a message of leadership and confidence to help kids be “anything” they want to in the future.
The series will premiere every Saturday at 1 p.m. EST during the month of March. This week’s episode will center around female activism and include a special DJ performance. Stream the event on Barbie’s Facebook Live or YouTube channel.
To commemorate International Women’s Day, Mattel’s Barbie brand will also introduce an Eleanor Roosevelt doll to the Inspiring Women collection. Roosevelt’s passionate advocacy, humanitarian efforts, and civic engagement earned her a place among other inspirational role-models, such as Dr. Maya Angelou, Ella Fitzgerald, and Frida Kahlo. This 12-inch, poseable First Lady is available at Walmart for $29.88.
Barbie is furthering its commitment to the Barbie Dream Gap Project by collaborating with Girls Leadership to fund female research on media representation. Girls Leadership will also partner with an elementary school that serves predominantly girls of color to create a PowerLab classroom that addresses inequities in representation, internalized racial and gender bias, and equality.
In addition, the Barbie Dream Gap curriculum created in partnership with UCLA Center for Scholars & Storytellers will be accessible digitally nationwide later this month. The curriculum will focus on leadership and career paths with take-home parent materials available in Spanish and English.
