As a nod to the adversarial yet strangely satisfying relationships in our lives, this Valentine’s Day Nintendo is celebrating its most iconic frenemy duo: Mario and Donkey Kong!
In anticipation of the upcoming release of Mario vs. Donkey Kong, which remasters the Game Boy Advance Classic version, Nintendo is allowing fans to download a free demo of four levels of the first world from the game. The demo will give gamers a first look at the new Two Player mode, which allows pals, enemies, and everyone in-between to team up as Mario and Toad using one Joy-Con.
Besides the new Two-Player mode, the game features other updated or entirely original components, like challenging new levels and a fully re-orchestrated soundtrack. And in Single Player mode, kids can now choose a difficulty level. Those who haven’t dabbled in the original video game can select Classic Style to experience the same difficulty level as the Game Boy Advance version. For those who have lived through the frustration of certain levels and want to take a more leisurely approach, Casual Style offers no time limit and the ability to restart from checkpoints.
Mario vs. Donkey Kong releases Feb. 16 and will be available both physically and digitally for $49.99 on the Nintendo Store. Until then, the young subjects of Mushroom Kingdom can still get in on the fun downloading the demo now and reaching out to their rivalrous other-half with these downloadable Mario vs. Donkey Kong Valentine’s Day eCards.
