Storms can be scary, but Sesame Workshop is sweepin’ the clouds away. The company is launching a new initiative to help kids process and prepare for hurricanes, floods, and other extreme weather events, starting with a brand-new television special on Aug. 3.
Premiering on Netflix and PBS Kids, Storm on Sesame Street follows Elmo, Abby Cadabby, and the rest of the gang as they get ready for a big storm. As they batten down the hatches, the furry friends will teach kids the importance of teamwork, kindness, and preparedness, and how to handle their big emotions when things feel scary. With celebrity guests Post Malone and Michelle Buteau, this special helps give kids the tools they need to face the forecast with confidence.
Beyond the screen, Sesame Workshop is teaming up with PBS and local nonprofits to host disaster relief events at libraries, community centers, storm shelters, and rebuilding sites across the U.S. The programs will feature meet-and-greets with characters, distribute resources, and even hand out Sesame Street-themed Care Kits with comfort items and everyday essentials to bring reassurance to kids and families in need.
Families can also access a wide variety of educational resources on Sesame Workshop’s website, including articles, videos, help guides, printable activities, and a new storybook.
