As a Barbie girl growing up, it always amazes me (and pleases me) that there are more options for kids now; many with great and funky backgrounds that give depth to doll that your girl is playing with. One that fits that depth to a ‘T’ are the Bratz dolls with names like Cloe, Jasmin, Jade and Sasha.
Cloe, Jade, Sasha and Yasmin make up the Bratz pack and they are part of a new Bratz My Passionâ„¢ line. If you head to the Bratz website, you can see each of them have a passion for fashion, yet have depth of ‘character’. Jade is a fashion designer, Cloe is an web designer, Yasmin is a Music DJ and Sasha is a fashion blogger.
Each doll represents a different ethnic group but their overall look is less about perfect body image as often projected by other fashion dolls. The focus is firmly on fashion and accessories, and with the Passion line, a passion for some sort of career or activity. In my opinion, this new focus adds an additional play value that was not apparent in the original Bratz line.
As this is my first up close review of the Bratz doll itself, I am not a huge fan of a couple of features of it. First, having to pull off the entire foot in order to change shoes. But then again, I suppose it is harder to lose the shoe which is what happened when I played with my Barbie dolls. Second, the complimentary doll I received for this review was Cloe and as a web designer, she came with her laptop, a cup of coffee and a cell phone. But there is apparently no way for her to hold the phone or cup of coffee. So while cute accessories, they seem to be only props (that will be easily lost or consumed by the dog.) It would be better if they were functionally usable for pretend play.
There are approximately 30 iterations of the Bratz dolls, including larger size and new tech ones too. There are a range of accessories including a car, DVDs and even Bratz Doll Halloween Costumes! All in all, I can see how kids can get bedazzled by the Bratz bonanza.
